After 20 Years by O' Henry

After reading Session #1 (from page 428 to the top of page 430 first full paragraph and stop after the sentence.. It's an appointment made twenty years ago.) from "After 20 Years," by O'Henry, go to this site and complete the Literature Maps for Setting and Characters (one for each character). When you are done completing these two maps, please print each of them out.

After you are done with two maps: Write a journal reflection on each of the following questions with restating the question in your response. Please write this on a looseleaf sheet of paper and turn in when you are finished.

Reflection Questions
1. What are the characters' feeling in this section and how do you know?
2. What do you think will happen next?
3. Will the friend show up? If so, how will the encounter be?

Session # 2
After you are finished with Session #1 activities, continue reading the story by yourself (pages 430 - 432). When you are finished, go back and add more detail to your Character Maps about each character, complete the Conflict Map and Resolution Map. When you are finished with each of those, please print out a copy to turn in to me.

After you are finished with the maps, respond to the following reflection questions using complete sentences and restating the question in the answer on a looseleaf sheet of paper.

Reflection Questions:
1. Do you agree with Jimmy's actions? Why or why Not?
2. How do you imagine Jimmy twenty years ago?
3. How do you imagine Bob twenty years ago?
4. How do you think Jimmy felt when he saw Bob?
5. Are Jimmy's actions justified?
6. If you were in Jimmy's shoes, what would have been the best thing to do from the following points of view?
a. career as a policeman
b. your friendship with Bob
c. your own conscience
d. the law
7. How do you think Jimmy felt when he wrote the letter?
8. What do you think Bob's reaction was after he read the letter?
9. Had you been Bob how would you have reacted to the letter?
